FAQ
What is Formal Recruitment?
Recruitment is the new name for "rush." It is the process by which Greek organizations get to know potential new members. During recruitment the potential new members will be lead through all of the four sororities on campus by the Woman's Panhellenic Association (WPA) in hopes to find a house, a new home, and a family that is the best fit for her. All women interested in joining a sorority will attend every sorority on campus and will get a chance to meet some of the girls from each chapter, as well as get a house tour. If you choose to participate in recruitment, there is no commitment to join a sorority. Sorority formal recruitment at Wichita State takes place before each fall semester starts.
What is a Sorority?
A Sorority is an organization made up of individuals who are bound together by common interests and goals. Involvement in a sorority encourages individual development in scholarship, service, leadership, and sisterhood; creating a unique experience for each member.
What is Woman's Panhellenic Association (WPA)?
WPA is the governing body for the four National Panhellenic Council Sororities at Wichita State University. The council is made up of an executive board, directors in different areas of Greek life, and a delegate from each chapter. Every sorority member is a member of WPA and can attend any meeting (held every other week).
Why do Recruitment Counselors Dis-Affiliate from their sororities during formal recruitment?
The WPA tries to keep a non-bias stand point so each woman going through recruitment can make a decision without influence from their recruitment counselors. The recruitment counselors are dis-affiliated all summer until bid day. That is why faces in pictures in the chapter houses, websites, etc are covered to conceal their identity.

Why did the name "rush" change?
The National Panhellenic Conference recently decided to change some terms associated with recruitment in order to reflect and encourage more positive attitudes concerning the process. Here are some examples of those terms: Rushee is now potential new members, Pledge is now New Member.
